A Conservative Tumblog: Why Gay Marriage Should Not Be Legalized →

The way I love my girlfriend is the same way as most of my male friends love their significant others. They way and how are the same thereby are equal to one another. A man loving another man or a woman loving another woman is NOT the same as how I love my gf, or how my gf loves me, thereby is NOT equal. The obvious logistical physical acts of love that are VASTLY DIFFERENT from when a man and a woman are together, so that’s NOT equal. The emotional relationship between and man and a woman are HUGELY different that when a man loves a man or woman loves a woman. NOT equal at all!

It always boils down to the “logistics” of gay sex for these bigots, doesn’t it?  Look, maybe the idea of how a guy has sex with another guy is something that you have a strong aversion to thinking about.  However, for someone who is gay, the idea of heterosexual sex is just as revolting. So how do they handle this?  How do YOU handle this?  By not thinking about it.

If you were born prior to 1978, odds are pretty good that you are living proof that your parents had sex.  Think about the logistics of that.  Your mom, your dad, naked, doing it.  Doggy style, cowgirl, missionary, standing up…I bet if you ask, they might even tell you exactly where, when, and how you were conceived.  Also, your parents are living proof that your grandparents have had sex.  If your grandparents are still alive, you might even ask them if they are still sexually active.  I know my grandma really enjoyed letting us know that she and grandpa were doin’ it regularly.

Now, most of you are going “OH MY GOD my parents having sex, ew ew brain bleach!”  So, of course, for the most part, you just don’t think about it. You can look at wedding photos of your parents without imagining what they do in bed, right?  You can see them holding hands, hugging, or kissing without visions of them having sexual relations dancing through your brain, right?  When your mom gives your dad a sweet smile and tells him she loves him, you don’t imagine that same mouth wrapped around his penis, right?

So why can’t you keep your imagination to yourself when it comes to gay relationships?  Is it because you are morbidly curious?  Are you really just confused as to what is involved, and therefore you fear it?  Do you have really bad hemorrhoids, and therefore imagine that anal sex must be painful for all people?  What exactly is the problem here?

I know that many people seem to react to this bigotry by saying that the bigots are closeted gays.  I’m not going to discount that possibility—some of the things said by people against gay rights seem to imply that the ONLY thing holding THEM back from going out and marrying someone of their own gender is that it’s illegal.  Most people I know, however, are married to a person of the opposite gender not because they have no other choice, but because they are heterosexual.  Gay marriage poses no threat to the vast majority of heterosexual marriages as long as the people in those heterosexual marriages are heterosexual, which is why many of us do wonder about the sexuality of opponents of gay marriage.  Unlike folks like Ted Haggard and Larry Craig, most actual heterosexuals don’t have to “fight homosexual urges” because they don’t have them.

However, I see so much emphasis on the “logistics” of gay sex—usually horrified expressions regarding it—that I really just think that many opponents are afraid of something they don’t understand.  It’s like the Masons—if you don’t know what exactly they are doing in those secret meetings, a person may feel nervous and fearful about them.  So perhaps we need to demystify gay sex for people who are nervous and fearful about it.  If you were to find out that the Masons, in those secret meetings, are doing things like wearing silly hats, chanting silly rhymes, and giving each other silly titles, you’d probably be less fearful and nervous about them.

Gay sex is no different.  It really IS no big deal.  Yes, anal penetration can be difficult for some people, especially those who are new to the practice.  However, penis-in-vagina sex is the same way—the first time for a woman is frequently painful.  The second time can be as well (mine was!).  Getting accustomed to a larger partner can take time.  Lubricants can make this a lot easier for both.  Condoms can make both types of sex safer.  For anal penetration (which, by the way, can be performed by heterosexual couples, and often with great pleasure—and heterosexual men often enjoy being penetrated by a woman’s fingers or a sex toy), a careful preparation can be done of gradually increasing the size of the penetrative object, starting with fingers or sex toys, and eventually moving up to the use of the penis.  Perhaps horrified people are imagining that one person unceremoniously jams their penis into the anus with a blithe lack of lubrication.  That’s not generally how it’s done, though.

Also, if you are heterosexual, and the idea of anal penetration is bothersome to you, my question is, have you tried it?  Seriously—if done correctly, it is often very pleasurable.  I recommend experimenting by yourself or with a partner, using a quality lubricant and a rubber or vinyl glove.  You may decide you don’t like it, but you may be pleasantly surprised.  Either way, it will demystify the process a bit so you don’t feel compelled to think about it so much.
